What Does Propel Do?

Smiles Family Dental uses this revolutionary orthodontic treatment to help accelerate your orthodontic treatment. Incredibly, Propel works by performing micro- osteoperforations in your gums and jawbone, which stimulates bone growth around your natural teeth and speeds up the movement of your teeth to their new place.

The remodeling process targets certain soft tissues in your mouth (such as the gums) and underlying hard tissue (called the alveolar bone) that support your teeth. When orthodontic appliances exert steady, gentle pressure, the teeth start to get a little loose, and the bone breaks down, is reabsorbed and then rebuilt.

In essence, as the bone remodels, the teeth are able to move more easily, and new bone forms to fill in the space where they once were. Eventually, the alveolar bone regenerates completely and moves teeth into proper alignment.

Cells, including those that cause inflammation, are in charge of your natural healing process, which can be time-consuming. However, thanks to the incredible technology of Propel, the extra stimulation speeds up bone regrowth. In turn, this improves a tooth’s movement, and gives you a straighter, healthier smile quicker than your natural healing process would allow.

What Does the Propel Process Entail?

While this is one of the most technologically advanced dental treatments available today, the process Propel uses is incredibly straightforward. It begins with our talented dental team taking digital X-rays of your mouth. This will help us measure the gaps between your teeth and assist in determining which areas should be targeted by micro-osteoperforations.

Once we have determined the optimal areas for this procedure to be performed, you will be treated with a local anesthetic. This and the numbing agents will help eliminate any discomfort or pain during the following steps.

With the care and precision that you can expect from the professionals at Smiles Family Dental, the Propel device will be used to make a tiny hole through your gum and into the underlying bone. For each tooth that is going to be moved during treatment, there will be one to three holes made on either side of the tooth.

Once this is accomplished, the Propel process is complete. Thanks to this procedure, your teeth should begin moving faster, accelerating their ability to align properly and give you the smile you have always wanted!

Am I a Candidate for Accelerated Orthodontics?

With such a streamlined procedure, the Propel process works for nearly anyone that is able to undergo orthodontic treatment.
